Triple Threat

It's here! Today is my 3 year blogiversary! (Never mind that the first entry is marked on 9/20, I had written that post the day after and then backdated it). I can't believe that I'm still here and blogging away! As always, the reason why I started blogging was thanks to Camy Tang's blog which inspired me to write my own blog. My main goal was to blog about the books I read because I figured I'd like others to know about the good books that were out there. I honestly can't believe that it's lasted this long and I hope to keep going strong. I've met so many new friends in the past year alone and I've even gotten to meet several in person and I'm going to meet more next week at the National Book Festival!

I'd also like to say thank you to those who nominated me for Best Cultural Review Blog for the 2009 BBAW Awards. It's truly been an honor that you considered me for that award and even more awesome that I made the shortlist! I've started to branch out in the past year from doing strictly Christian fiction reviews and it's paid off!

As of today I have written 400 book reviews, 68 movie reviews, had 8 author interviews and had 122 contests. When I first started my blog I had a mere 300 books. As of today I have a whopping 2163 books in my collection. Last year I had 1498. That's an accumulation of 665 books in one year! At this rate, if I live to be 90 I'll have over 40,000 books. Oh well I can dream can't I?

Now I wouldn't be where I was today without you guys. Sure I could keep blogging, but if I didn't r
eceive comments or emails, blogging would be really lonely. You guys have kept me going and it always brightens my day when I hear someone tell me they were inspired to read/buy a book because I reviewed it on my blog. I'm always geeked to hear someone say that they never would have found out about a book if they hadn't seen it on my blog

And since it's my THREE year anniversary, I'm giving away T
HREE prize packages!!! As you know, I read and feature three genres on this blog: Christian fiction, YA and chick lit.

  1. A) I'd like to win the YA one.
    and
B&C) I've been a reader of your blog for a few months now... just sneaking peaks every now and then to see what's being reviewed. But I have a book to recommend. Since you've read a couple of Denise Hildreth's books, I'd recommend the Will of Wisteria if you haven't read that already. It was a great book that I just recently read.

Congrats on your 3 year blogiversary! You do a great job with your reviews. I subscribed to your blog a couple of months ago and the review that you wrote on 'A Mile in My FlipFlops' by Melody Carlson made me want to read the book which isn't my usually choice of read. I would like to win the Christian Fiction one. Keep on reading and see you around PBS! clariail1@yahoo.com

  9. Hey Deb! Congrats on 3 years! I'd like the Christian Fiction or the Chick Lit. I've read here and there when I've had time. I've liked the Christian Lit books you've written. I haven't read much of either, but am interested in exploring more styles. I read a lot of Christian/Inspiration type books, but I do like Harry Potter/Narnia/Twilight too. :) Congrats again!

  12. Congratulations! Apparently, I'll have a lot of competition for the Christian lit package. I still have your emailed recommendations, but it would be great to try some out for FREE! Plus, no mailing required. I'm in your area! Alas, random.org doesn't take that into consideration.

Let's see. Recommendations. I'm sure you've already read the Traveling Pants books. Clean YA chick-lit. I loved them (although I haven't read the most recent). If you'd like to try some YA Fantasy, I'd recommend anything by Robin McKinley except Deerskin.

Happy Blogaversary! I'm TheSampleLady at PBS. I would like to win ANY of the packages, but especially the Christian fiction. This is my first visit to your blog (but wow!). An interesting YA book I read recently is The Bar Code Tattoo by Suzanne Weyn. It wasn't Christian fiction, but I was drawn to it because of bibilical references to marks to buy/sell/et cetera. I recommend you try that one. Thanks!

Deborah, I am new to your blog but I know you from PBS so you can contact me that way.
I would recomend the book Forgiven by Shelley Shepard Gray. It is a book written in the Amish country and is a story about a child burnign down an Amish barn by accident and the owner of the barn having a hard time finding forgiveness for whoever set the barn on fire but in the end thru God's teachings he learns the true meaning of forgiveness and the yong man who accidently set the barn on fire learns the true feeling of how much better you feel when you are honest instead of trying to hide soemthing. I would highly recommend this book.
If I should win the contest I would want to win the Christian books.

Happy anniversary! I would like to win the Christian fiction or Chick Lit package.

I've been lurking on your blog for a couple of months. I've read Healing Stones by Nancy Rue and your review of Healing Waters has me even more excited to watch it climb up my WL. I notice that you've reviewed several of Nancy Moser's historicals, but only one of her contemporaries. I would suggest her Steadfast series (A Steadfast Surrender and The Ultimatum). The two books are very different from each other. I thought the contrast in styles for two related books to be very interesting and I'd love to hear your perspective.

    A) I'd like to win the Chick Lit package. <3

    C) I found your blog through paperbackswap.com (somehow... now I'm not even sure how...) and now I'm definitely going to have to come back and see your reviews!! I haven't flipped through too many of your reviews yet, but if you haven't read it yet, I recommend "Jemima J" by Jane Green as a chick lit must-read. I just picked it up the other day and have requested every one of Jane Green's novels off PBSwap, it's so great!

Also, "She Went All The Way" by Meg Cabot is MY other favorite chick lit novel, and is one of those great we-hate-each-others'-guts novels.

OH! And also "Everyone Worth Knowing" by Lauren Weisberger, which is THE book that got me exploring more chick lit/romance novels... She's also the author of "The Devil Wears Prada," if you didn't already know that, and THAT book is apparently pretty different from the movie... I also went out and snatched up everything by Lauren Weisberger after reading "Everyone Worth Knowing."

...OK, so I sort of suggested three. = ) Happy reading! Oh, and I'm "elleykat" on PBSwap, just so's ya know!

  67. I recently discovered your blog, and I'm so glad I did!

I would like to win the chick lit package (first choice) or the YA package (second choice).

I would recommend you read American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld. I wouldn't consider it chick lit, but it is a wonderful, female-centered narrative.

  68. Congrats on going strong for 3 years! :) I'd love to be entered for any of the 3 packages of books. I first found your blog just a couple of months ago, when you found out you made it into The Apothecary's Daughter. Your review of that book influenced me to go buy it. Great book, too--I really enjoyed it, and your review was right on.

I would recommend Brock and Bodie Thoene's Galway Chronicles (starts with Only the River Runs Free). Historical fiction set in Ireland during the potato famine. Of all of their series, that is my favorite.

  71. My first choice for a package would be the YA package. I am also interested in the Chick Lit one as a second choice. I loved your review for Tidings of Great Boys by Shelley Adina. It sounds so great I just have to read it. A YA book I highly recommend would be The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale. I am really big into fairy tales and this one was awesome. It is on my keeper shelf. Happy Blog Anniversary!
