My Library Reads No. 7

My Library Reads is a spotlight on the library books that I have read during the previous week. This is not a post on what books I borrowed but books that I read. Since I don't review library books, this is a way to still be able to showcase them on my blog.

BTW, if anyone knows of another meme that is like this on another blog, could you please let me know? I don't know of any myself, but if there is one already in place, I'd like to give credit where credit is due!

Library Books read from 1/30/11 - 2/5/11

A Killer Crop by Shelia Connolly (Berkley Prime Crime, 12/7/10)

Cozy Mystery: 4th book in the Orchard mystery series. I love apples so about halfway through this book I had to go get one out of the fridge and start chowing down while reading. The mystery is quite good and as a historian, the parts on genealogy and archives made me happy. I've enjoyed this series so far and I really like how things are progressing with the characters and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Buffalo West Wing by Julie Hyzy (Berkley Prime Crime, 1/4/11)

Cozy Mystery: 4th book in the White House Chef Mysteries. This is one of my FAVORITE cozy mystery series that is out there. Why? For three reasons: 1) It's set in the DC area where I live, 2) there's LOTS OF FOOD, 3) it's extremely well written. Every single one of these books have been a page turner where I have to force myself to NOT look at the ending. In this book, we meet a new Presidential family and Ollie has to learn how to deal with them when a crisis comes up. There's lots of adventure suspense throughout and I loved learning about the White House as well. Plus did I mention all the food? Seriously do not read this book on an empty stomach. Even though those wings were poisonous I was craving some while reading. Cannot wait til the next book!

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (Dutton Juvenile, 12/2/10)

YA: Swoon!!!!! I had heard a lot of this book from Twitter and other book bloggers. Everyone was talking about how wonderful this book was. I followed everyone's suggestions and got the book and guess what: IT WAS WONDERFUL!!!! It had everything I wanted in a book: a hot British guy, traveling and touring Paris, fun characters, a wonderful plot, a romance that felt incredibly realistic and THE BEATLES!!! I really really loved this book and I want more! I didn't want it to end but I'm so glad to hear that the author will have more books coming out soon.
I CANNOT WAIT!!

The Inheritance of Beauty by Nicole Seitz (Thomas Nelson, 2/8/11)

General/Literary Fiction: This is actually my first Nicole Seitz book that I've read though I own all her other ones. I really loved her style of writing as it takes the reader on a journey. The story is actually quite sad yet beautiful. Memories play a huge part in the book and the characters are all fully developed. There's also a bit of magic realism in the story as well. I'm going to have to read the rest of her books now. Interesting note: even though this book is published by Thomas Nelson (a known Christian publisher) I don't feel this book is Christian fiction at all.

The Agency: The Body at the Tower by Y.S. Lee (Candlewick, 8/10/10)

YA: 2nd book in the Agency series. Again, this is another YA book that I swooned over while reading. It's historical fiction, set in Britain during the Victorian era, it's a mystery and the main character is half Chinese. Again, what's not to love? The writing in this book is top notch, engaging the reader in the time period as well as creating a mystery that is well done sprinkled with a touch of romance. I really love Mary's character and I want to know more about her roots and I hope that the next book in the series will bring more light to her background.

A Place of Peace by Amy Clipston (Zondervan, 12/14/10)

Christian Fiction - Amish: 3rd book in the Kauffman Amish Bakery series. I'd say that this book was not my favorite out of the series but neither was it the worse. I didn't really like the first book in this series but the 2nd book was greatly improved. This one could have benefited from the main characters just talking to each other and explaining everything instead of creating all the drama between the two of them. There was just too much going back and forth and hurting of people's feelings. There was a lot of good food mentioned though, with some easy recipes that I would love to recreate.

Audiobooks:

Adventures in Odyssey: Danger Signals (Tyndale, 2004)

Comments

  1. I got Anna and the French Kiss when it was free for the Kindle because of all the great buzz. Now, I need to find the time to read it.
